Coaching & Mentoring

Coaching and Mentoring

Coaching and mentoring are key tools for personal and professional development. They help individuals achieve career goals, strengthen leadership skills, navigate transitions, and build resilience. The NHS North West Leadership Academy believes every single NHS staff member should have access to coaching and mentoring resources, support and development opportunities, as highlighted in the 10 Year Plan.

The NHS North West Leadership Academy’s Coaching and Mentoring Hub provides a high quality, confidential service matching mentees with trained mentors, and matching coachees with experienced and qualified coaches. Users can create a profile, manage coaching or mentoring relationships, book onto upcoming events, and access supporting resources.

Coaching

Coaching takes a holistic view of a leader as a person and is about more than just work. Coaching is a way of using questioning and inquiry to help leaders unlock their full potential to achieve personal and professional success.

Coaching takes a structured approach, with sessions scheduled to focus on specific skills and offer reflective time to consider the next steps to achieving goals and objectives.

Mentoring

Mentoring is the support and guidance of one individual to another with a focus on professional development and achieving career goals. The emphasis is on the needs of the individual, encouraging autonomy while helping to identify opportunities for future development.

Mentoring offers a more informal relationship, with a less structured approach that is ideal for sharing knowledge, skills and guidance to enhance development.
