Coaching and mentoring are key tools you can use for career development to realise your aspirations, increase your leadership skills, access support through a personal or professional transition as well as increasing your personal resilience. We believe leaders at all levels should have access to coaching and mentoring resources, support and development opportunities.
What is Coaching?
Coaching takes a holistic view of you as a person and is about more than just work. Coaching is a way of using questioning and inquiry to help leaders unlock their full potential to achieve personal and professional success.
Coaching takes a structured approach, with sessions scheduled to focus on specific skills and offer reflective time to consider the next steps to achieving goals and objectives Research shows that there are huge personal benefits to accessing coaching, particularly at times of change. You may wish to access coaching for different reasons and at different points within your development journey.
The NHS NWLA Coaching Hub is available to our members to join as a coach or coachee.
What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is the support and guidance of one individual to another with a focus on professional development and achieving career goals. Mentoring develops leaders through sharing of knowledge, skills and experience. The emphasis is on the needs of the individual with mentoring encouraging autonomy and self-development while helping to identify opportunities for future development.
Mentoring offers a more informal relationship, with a less structured approach that is ideal for sharing knowledge, skills and guidance to enhance your development.
