Coaching

Coaching is a method of developing an individual’s capabilities in order to facilitate the achievement of organisational success. This one to one focused and bespoke relationship is often perceived as the single most effective development intervention that a senior leader in the NHS can access.

“Highly recommend accessing a coach to dedicate time to personal development, accelerating improvement and working on issues in a supportive place.”

Research shows that there are huge personal benefits to accessing coaching, particularly at times of change. Coaching is a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires individuals to maximise their personal and professional potential. Coaching can:

Help improve personal performance (closing the gap between potential and performance).

Help increase morale, motivation and enthusiasm.

Help to reduce levels of stress.

Improve self-confidence at all levels.

Help encourage a more proactive approach to addressing issues and making decisions

Access as a coach to the Coaching and Mentoring Hub requires coaches to hold a professional coaching qualification (e.g. ILM5/7, ACC, PCC, or ICF) or the ability to evidence equivalent experience over the past couple of years (e.g. past coaching hours, relationships, CPD, and supervision). Registered coaches on the Hub will be provided with access to regular CPD, coaching supervision, and network learning events.

Access as a coachee to the Coaching and Mentoring Hub is open to all employees working in NHS organisations in the North West (Cheshire and Merseyside, Greater Manchester, and Lancashire and South Cumbria).

Key to every practising coach, supervision forms part of the coaching agreement for the NHS North West Leadership Academy coaching scheme. Supervision is an opportunity to network and share learning with peers, explore themes and challenges, and develop thinking as a coach.

A cohort of trained NHS supervisors across the North West provides support and access to coaching supervision virtually through group sessions, which are accessible via the Coaching and Mentoring Hub.

Coaching CPD

Through investing in development opportunities, coaching leaders can ensure their skills and knowledge are maintained throughout their coaching journey.

As part of the NHS North West Leadership Academy’s support offer, a variety of coaching CPD is available each year for registered coaches, with sessions rotated to ensure wide accessibility.

The Coaching and Mentoring Hub can also be used to track CPD hours and activities.
