The NHS Leadership Academy’s national leadership development programmes are designed to help everyone in the NHS discover their full potential and achieve the highest standards in health and care.
The programmes operate at every level of leadership and are there to support you at any point in your career.
Edward Jenner programme

The Edward Jenner programme helps people prepare for their first leadership or management role by building foundation-level leadership skills.
It is a self-guided suite of short courses delivered online with interactive discussions.

Mary Seacole programme

The Mary Seacole programme supports people in their first leadership role by developing their knowledge and skills in leadership and management.
It includes 100 hours of online learning and three behavioural workshops.
- Cost: £995 per person.

Rosalind Franklin programme

The Rosalind Franklin programme is for mid-level leaders who aspire to lead large and complex programmes, departments, services or systems.
It includes 120 hours of online learning, four days of workshops and small group work.
- Cost: £1,200 per person.

- Options available for CMI accreditation.
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme

The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme supports middle to senior leaders by helping them challenge the status quo, drive lasting change and prepare for senior roles.
It is a 24-month programme.
- Cost: £14,000 per person.
- Options available for an apprenticeship.
- Options available to progress to an MSc in Healthcare Leadership for an additional fee.
Nye Bevan programme

The Nye Bevan programme is for senior leaders who want to move into a board role and helps them develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours needed to succeed.
It is a 12-month programme with online learning, a residential workshop and self-managed learning sets.

- Includes the NHS Leadership Academy Award in Executive Healthcare Leadership.
Foundations in System Leadership: collaborating in health and care

The Foundations in System Leadership programme is for people working in health and care who want to improve how they collaborate across organisational and professional boundaries to design and deliver better health outcomes. It is a 5-week programme with 25 hours of self-directed study.
- Cost: Free for selected groups, including colleagues in care, local authorities and the voluntary sector.

Core Managers: Developing Inclusive Workplaces programme

The Core Managers programme is for health and care managers and supervisors, and helps them develop core inclusive leadership skills. It is a self-guided suite of short courses delivered online with journaling and peer discussion.
- Cost: Free for selected groups.
Sustainability Leadership for Greener Health and Care programme

The Sustainability Leadership for Greener Health and Care programme develops leadership abilities and provides the tools and knowledge needed to build a greener and more sustainable health system.
It is a 21-week programme with a choice of online or blended learning.
