Collaborative Masterclass: Unlocking sustainable productivity
Health and social care requires long-term, sustainable productivity improvements to meet rising demand, improve care quality, and protect public finances.
This masterclass will help health and social care leaders reframe productivity as a driver of sustainable improvements in care quality, not just a mechanism for meeting financial targets. Building on the NHS Productivity Commission’s call for a new narrative, the session will explore how productivity gains can enhance patient outcomes, staff experience, and system resilience.
Participants will examine the four key drivers—workforce, capital, technology and innovation, and transformation—and learn how to align them to tackle systemic barriers such as underinvestment, poor flow, and fragmented initiatives. Through practical tools and collaborative planning, the masterclass will empower leaders to embed productivity improvements that deliver lasting value across the health and care system.
Learning Objectives:
- To explore the challenge of improving productivity within the NHS and wider sector and examine how a shift in mindset and narrative may support.
- Understand why productivity should be viewed as a lever for improving care quality and sustainability, not just meeting financial targets.
- Diagnose barriers and enablers, identifying systemic challenges such as underinvestment, poor patient flow, and fragmented initiatives, and propose strategies to overcome them.
- Champion cultural change and demonstrate how leadership and governance can foster a culture of continuous improvement and trust.
