The Healthcare Leadership Model (HLM) was developed to help you become a better leader in your day-to-day role.
The Healthcare Leadership Model describes what good leaders do, supports individuals in developing their leadership skills by illustrating how their behaviours influence the culture and climate within which they and their teams operate.
Leaders are prompted with reflective questions designed to help them consider how their actions and behaviours impact others. These guiding questions encourage thoughtful leadership and foster behaviours that lead to positive outcomes.
The model is applicable in any setting, clinical or non-clinical, and is relevant regardless of whether someone leads a small team of five or an organisation of 5,000. It is valuable for everyone because it identifies observable leadership practices and demonstrates ways to grow and develop as a leader.
What is HLM?
The HLM has been developed to create a vision for leadership, one that reflects the very best in care and compassion, alongside a focus on excellence in strategy, vision, direction and engagement.
The model has nine dimensions. Each dimension is made up of:
- A brief description of what the dimension is about.
- Why is it important?
- A section that says ‘what it is not’ to provide further clarity.
Other resources
The HLM focuses on building capability to enable people to meet future challenges; using a range of experiences as a vehicle for individual and organisational learning; acting as a role model for personal development.
