SUMMARY:Collaborative Masterclass: Transforming the delivery of public services using Human Learning Systems Approach
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nCurrent approaches to public management do not work when the world is complex. Human Learning Systems is an alternative approach to public management which embraces the complexity of the real world and enables us to work effectively in that complexity. This masterclass will feature guest speaker Toby Lowe. \nToby will be talking about a recently published guide he contributed to which was commissioned to support those undertaking learning system-based change. This approach to policy and legislation development puts choice and control in the hands of citizens. From Self-Directed Support to Realistic Medicine and on to Community Empowerment and Human rights – there is a strong drive to change how people are empowered to take control and set agendas. This applies both in terms of having increased direct control over their own lives and wellbeing\, and also in terms of community led models which see citizen voices shaping local and national services. \nThis session will explore this agenda and how Toby’s approach could truly transform services and how Human Learning Systems builds on the empowerment agenda. \nSpeakers – Toby Lowe\nSenior Lecturer at Northumbria University & Visiting Professor at Centre for Public Impact. Toby spent 15 years working across the public and voluntary sectors in the UK\, working in both policy and delivery roles. He is on secondment to CPI from Newcastle Business School\, where he has been working alongside public and voluntary sector organisations to develop a alternative paradigm for public management – one which enables public service to work more effectively in complex\, dynamic environments. \nLearning Outcomes\nBy the end of the masterclass\, you will: \n\nhave been introduced to the human learning systems approach\nunderstand what this approach means for our public services\nunderstand how this approach supports the empowerment off all those in our communities\n\nThis session is a must see for anyone involved in policy development or the design of services. \nBook your place
